The New York Rangers placed playoff star Barclay Goodrow on waivers Tuesday, signaling a potential end to his time on Broadway.

Despite a standout postseason with six goals and eight points in 16 games, Goodrow only managed four goals and 12 points in 80 regular season games. He has three years left on his contract with a $3.64 million cap hit.
This move suggests the Rangers might be looking to offload Goodrow, either now or in the coming weeks ahead of NHL Free Agency on July 1st. Although Goodrow has a 15-team no-trade clause, all 31 other clubs can claim him before Wednesday at 2 PM ET.
Depending on what happens with Barclay Goodrow (claimed, buried or bought out) the Rangers could have up to ~$12.8 million of space to work with this summer. Schneider and Lindgren RFA deals will eat into that, but it's still a good bit of flexibility.

The 31 year-olds no-trade clause doesn't apply to waivers, so he can't block any team from claiming him within the next 24 hours.
The Rangers have placed Barclay Goodrow on waivers.

In the 2024 playoffs, Goodrow scored 6 goals on 15 shots while finishing with the lowest 5v5 on-ice shot and expected goal share of any forward with 150+ minutes played.

If this move is part of GM Chris Drury's strategy, it's a smart one. The first buyout window opens after the Stanley Cup Final, which could end tonight if the Florida Panthers beat the Edmonton Oilers in Game 5.
Buying out Goodrow would clear his cap hit and give the Rangers an additional cap credit of $247,222, freeing up nearly $3.89 million.
However, it would also result in a $1 million cap penalty next season, $3.5 million in 2026-27, and $1.11 million in each of the following three years.

Goodrow, a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Tampa Bay Lightning, has 60 goals and 169 points in 572 career NHL games.
I don't think a team will claim Goodrow, they'll wait for the Rangers to buy him out and get him cheaper on July 1st. Here's what a buyout looks like: #NYR

He had two game-winning goals and two shorthanded goals during the 2024 playoffs.
