This summer, the Toronto Maple Leafs are on the hunt for key players in NHL Free Agency, and finding a reliable goalie is at the top of their list.
Last season saw a carousel of goalies due to injuries and inconsistent performances. Joseph Woll is under contract for one more year at a modest $766,667, while Ilya Samsonov, who had an up-and-down season, is heading into free agency and looking for a long-term deal.
One intriguing option for the Leafs is Laurent Brossoit as a tandem goalie to share starts with Woll. Brossoit had a stellar season with the Winnipeg Jets, boasting a 15-5-2 record over 23 games and finishing with a .927 save percentage, the best among NHL goalies who played 20 or more games.
At 31, Brossoit also brings championship experience, having won the Stanley Cup with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2023.
During that run, he played eight games, recording a 5-2-0 record with an .894 save percentage. Despite his limited appearances—just 34 games over the past two regular seasons—his strong save percentage suggests he could be a solid pick-up on a shorter deal come July 1.
