The mystery behind Alex DeBrincat's departure from the Ottawa Senators this offseason has finally been unveiled.

The DeBrincat Trade History

In the last offseason, the Ottawa Senators made a big move by acquiring Alex DeBrincat during the NHL draft.
Welcome to the Nation's Capital, Alex!

#Sens acquire forward Alex DeBrincat from @NHLBlackhawks in exchange for three draft picks:

However, things changed this offseason as the Senators decided to trade DeBrincat to the Detroit Red Wings for a smaller package.
Trade Alert! The #Sens have acquired forward, Dominik Kubalk, defenceman, Donovan Sebrango, a conditional first-round draft pick in '24 and a fourth-round draft pick in '24 from the Detroit Red Wings, in exchange for forward, Alex DeBrincat.

The Real Reason Behind the Trade Request

Now, the truth behind DeBrincat's departure from Ottawa has surfaced.
Sources say he didn't like his role as a second-line winger behind captain Brady Tkachuk. If that's the case then DeBrincat really did have to go.

This becomes more evident when you consider DeBrincat's drop in performance while on the second line. If he had played on the first line, he might have easily surpassed the 40-goal mark once again.
With Tkachuk being the Senators captain, it makes sense that they would want to keep him on the first line, even if he is not a sniper like DeBrincat.
But the trade is now done, and DeBrincat has the chance to shine on the Detroit Red Wings' first line alongside Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond.
In summary, the real reason for Alex DeBrincat's trade request was his wish for a more prominent role, which he will now have the opportunity to fulfill with the Detroit Red Wings.
