Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer nearing a new arena deal solidifying the future of the franchise

The future of the Ottawa Senators in the nation's capital has been in doubt for the last several seasons. Their current arena, the Canadian Tire Centre, was built in 1996 the lack of updates and remote location make it one of the least desirable arenas in the NHL.

As a result of the low attendance and the frustration from fans over the last several years, the franchise has been looking to build a new arena. When owner Michael Andlauer took over the team in 2023 the main priority for him was to secure a new arena.

When he bought the team Michael Andlauer made sure to confirm his priority was to keep the team in Ottawa. Since then he has been working with NCC CEO Tobi Nussbaum on a land deal to keep the Senators in Ottawa. Today a major update has been given on those negotiations.

A new report from Bruce Garrioch has revealed that the NCC and Michael Andlauer are moving to the next step in the process to build an arena at LeBreton Flats. This location for the Senators would be near Parliament Hill and in the heart of downtown Ottawa.

The new arena location would be much more ideal for fans both from Ottawa and out of town. The downtown location would help drive business to the surrounding area and make coming to games a more convenient and stress-free occasion.

For now, negotiations are ongoing and things could still change. If this deal does end up being completed the Ottawa Senators look to be sticking around in the nation's capital for the foreseeable future.
