Concerns are growing in Washington ahead of the start of training camp as Alex Ovechkin left the ice with an injury.
On Monday morning, the Washington Capitals players met at the rink for an informal skate, but things took a bad turn a few minutes into the session.
Indeed, a new report confirmed that Alex Ovechkin left the ice and returned to the locker room, clearly dealing with an injury.
Ovechkin's campaign will be followed by fans all over the world, as he could break Wayne Gretzky's goal record. He only needs 42 goals to beat it, and it is widely believed he can accomplish that feat this season or the next.
Everyone hopes that his injury won't stand in the way of this happening.
For now, no details have been released on his condition. However, if he were to miss some time, it could greatly hurt his chances of reaching Gretzky's mark.
As for the Capitals, they'll try to reach the playoffs for the second straight season, after making a surprising push last year to reach the postseason tournament.
Even though they fell to the New York Rangers in four games in the first round, management made several interesting acquisitions over the summer, which could help the team reach another level.
With
Pierre-Luc Dubois, Jakub Chychrun,
Andrew Mangiapane, and
Logan Thompson, Washington could have one of their most competitive editions in recent years. Hopefully, Ovi will be able to play 82 games to give himself and his team a chance to reach their goals.
