Sidney Crosby has been the heart and soul of the Pittsburgh Penguins for two decades now, but according to a new report, the run may be coming to an end.

For some time now, there has been chatter around an extension for Sidney Crosby in Pittsburgh, so when the beginning of free agency on July 1st came and went, the lack of movement was shocking to many. Now, reporter Nick Kypreos has revealed an intriguing update on contract talks, sharing that Crosby's side aren't in any rush to make a deal happen.
Eyebrows were raised when the Penguins did not announce a contract extension for Sidney Crosby on July 1, and there isn't one expected this week. Word is that while both sides are in conversation, there is no rush from Crosby's side. Read into that however you want.
With the arrival of Kyle Dubas in Pittsburgh, very little has changed to improve this team as Sidney Crosby chases one last Stanley Cup, and now, it may be effecting his desire to stay for his final NHL contract. Still, No. 87 is beloved in Pittsburgh by the fans and the organization, so until he is either traded or signs elsewhere, it's likely that he'll be back, but the further things go without a deal, the more likely it is that he hits free agency in 2025.
