After an elite two-decade run with the Pittsburgh Penguins, including two Stanley Cups, the contract of Sidney Crosby runs out following the upcoming 2024-25 NHL season.
Given their status as a franchise right now, there are some that believe moving Crosby is the best for the team going forward, but in loyal fashion to their captain, it appears he will be getting a new deal.
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, a deal between the two teams has been discussed, and at 36-years of age, it's likely that Crosby's new contract comes in at two or three years to see out the remainder of his career in Pittsburgh where it all started.
With 1,257 games and 1,570 points under his belt for the Penguins, Crosby will already go down as one of the best players in franchise and NHL history, and this new deal will allow him to cement that status even further. In his age 36 season, Crosby hasn't fallen off at all, posting 33 goals and 68 points in 67 games played, and with the team looking to re-tool on the fly this summer, it appears they're looking for one last Stanley Cup push with the core trio of Crosby, Malkin and Letang.
