Seattle Kraken sign 1000+ games NHL veteran to a professional tryout

According to multiple reports, the Seattle Kraken signed the 1,000+ games NHL veteran James van Riemsdyk to a professional tryout contract.
On Thursday morning, sources revealed that the Seattle Kraken and James van Riemsdyk agreed on the terms of a PTO.
With training camp around the corner, teams often look for cheap options to fill holes in their roster or generate internal competition to get the best out of their players.
The 2nd overall pick in 2007 will bring his leadership and vast NHL experience to the young Kraken core. He could play a significant role in developing players like Shane Wright, Berkly Catton, or Matty Beniers.
In his career, he took part in 1,011 regular-season games as well as 82 playoff games. In total, he scored 665 points, including 332 goals, with the Philadelphia Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Boston Bruins.
In the 2023-24 season with the Bruins, he tallied 38 points in 71 games, showing that he can still contribute to a team at 35 years old.
It'll be interesting to see if the Kraken can bounce back from their disappointing season last year, where they missed the playoffs for the second time in franchise history.
As for van Riemsdyk, it'll be interesting to see if he can convince the Kraken's coaching staff to add him to the lineup. We should know what's going to happen with him in the next few weeks.
