Auston Matthews and Brad Treliving haven't reached a deal for an extension yet, and it's completely normal.
We're not even in August, and there are more pressing matters for Treliving to attend to.
Dealing with Matt Murray, William Nylander, and possibly Erik Karlsson seems more urgent than negotiating with Matthews. Both parties are confident that they'll reach a deal soon.
However, because nothing has been announced, there are a lot of rumors and speculations out there. People rely on anything they can to try and see what Matthews' extension will look like.
In the simulation, Matthews accepted a four-year deal valued at $13M AAV.
"We were able to extend Matthews' contract with a four-year deal at $13M per season. Obviously, in real-life NHL, with the salary cap going up at the end of next season, maybe he's going to be asking for more. Time will tell what happens."
Of course, this isn't a sure thing; it's just fun to see what could happen.
If this is close to reality, Leafs fans will be happy, as a lot of rumors suggest Matthews won't sign for under $13.5M.
Signing for $13M isn't a big difference, but every dollar counts in this salary cap era, and Treliving could use the extra 500k.
