There is a new update on one of the top goalies in the NHL.
Hellebuyck Staying In Winnipeg?
It has been reported that Winnipeg Jets star netminder Connor Hellebuyck may be staying in Winnipeg after all, after he has voiced his opinions of not wanting to resign with the team.
Hellebuyck will be a free agent next summer, so the uncertainty of whether he will stay with the team that would acquire him plays a great factor. NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has reported that is quite likely that Hellebuyck is on the Jets roster at the start of next season.
"I've had some people tell me that they wouldn't be surprised if Hellebuyck starts the year in Winnipeg"
Huge Price To Pay
It is believed that Hellebuyck will be asking for a similar contract as the eight-year, $10.5M AAV deal that Carey Price received numerous years ago. Many NHL fans believe that this would be a huge overpay for Hellebuyck, which evidently may be what team GM's are thinking as well.
With the huge trade offer that would have to come with acquiring Hellebuyck as well as the loads of money that a team will have to pay to keep him, trade talks are starting to die down and the chances of Hellebuyck staying in Winnipeg for next season are rising. As the offseason progresses, more details are yet to come.
