The Leafs very poor defense was on full display in their 6-3 loss to the Ottawa Senators. TNT analyst Paul Bissonnette was not afraid to voice his displeasure with the Leafs.

Paul Bissonnette Becomes Brutally Honest About the Leafs

The Leafs have always been known for trying to outscore their defensive issues but that is not going to work in the playoffs or even against most teams in the regular season.
Bissonnette became the voice for all Leafs fans following the loss going as far as saying the Leafs could miss the playoffs.
"It's just ugly."

"It's just lost coverage, no sticks in lanes, no commitment to blocking shots, not protecting the most dangerous area of the ice, which we call the house, not taking away time and space, awful gaps, not protecting the defensive blueline...the list goes on and on and on."

"It's disgusting, and if they keep playing like this, they're probably going to miss the playoffs."

Simple defensive mistakes and poor defensive coverage is all the plays in the fans of the franchise when they think about the game.
"It's a defensive zone, defensive structure, and a team commitment to playing defense issue. And if it's not addressed, like I said, it's going to get uglier, and uglier and uglier."
There has been one consistent player that has been playing very poor in their own zone is John Klingberg.

Klingberg's Very Poor Defensive Start to the Season

The Senators second goal of the night was talked about on social media by many as it shows both Klingberg and Max Domi failing to play their positions in the defensive zone.
Leafs Head Coach Sheldon Keefe called out Klingberg for his defensive play saying they need to protect him on the ice.
"Yes."

"We need to protect him better."
Although early in the season the Leafs poor play has questioned everything about the team, whether a coaching change is needed or new faces in the locker room.
The Leafs will need to change their defensive play in order to become the Stanley Cup contender they were were pegged to be at the start of the season.
