The Edmonton Oilers goaltending has been in shambles this season. They are reportedly looking at all options to improve the situation including a former Vezina finalist.

Oilers Goaltending Needs Major Improvement

The Edmonton Oilers recently placed goalie Jack Campbell on waivers. This move revealed just how bad things have gotten in Edmonton between the pipes. With Campbell not being claimed the Oilers will now likely explore to trade market to get rid of his contract.
The Oilers didnt even have faith that Jack Campbell could get a dub over the San Jose Sharks, lmao. That's bleak, man.
Since his official demotion to the AHL trade rumors have been swirling. Including one that would bring a former Vezina finalist to Edmonton. One NHL insider believes the most likely course of action is indeed a trade.

NHL Insider Reveals A Vezina Finalist Could Be Coming To Edmonton

Today during his 32 Thoughts Podcast Elliotte Friedman spoke about the Oilers goalie situation. He linked the team to several different goalies including one very relevant name.
I do think they are contemplating things, looking at several options. There've been reports of Jordan Binnington, but unless the Blues are giving up on the season, they need to replace him and won't be taking Campbell. Binnington's also a $6-million cap hit, which would take quite a bit of finagling. Not impossible, but challenging.

They've talked to Montreal which doesn't need a goalie about the possibility of Jake Allen, but I don't sense anything imminent.

Watching Juuse Saros almost single-handedly beat the Flames on Tuesday reminds that he's the true prize, but in addition to any return, it might cost the team an 18-wheeler full of Alberta crude and media-meal perogies.

The most intriguing name on this list of potential options is Nashville Predators goalie Juuse Saros.

Saros has been one of the best goalies in the NHL despite playing for a team that is considered to be rebuilding. The Predators have struggled to ice a good team around Saros and he continues to produce.
He is a Vezina finalist who has stayed at the same consistent level of play since the year he was nominated. He has familiarity with Oilers defenseman Mattias Ekholm as well from their days in Nashville. With the Predators potentially looking to rebuild and young goalie Yaroslav Askarov on the horizon a trade could make sense.
Saros is 28 years old which is still relatively young for a goalie. This means the price would likely be steep to acquire him. The Oilers need to make a move to try and win a Stanley Cup and the goalie is holding them back the most.
If things continue to not go well for the Oilers they could lose Connor McDavid. Trading for Saros buys them more time to compete without McDavid and Draisaitl losing faith in the organization.
