The Toronto Maple Leafs haven't denied the potential of a Mitch Marner trade this off-season, and if they do move him, they could be looking at a significant return.

Over the past few seasons, Mitch Marner has been a fantastic contributor in the regular season, but when the playoff hits, his production takes a hit, and the fans in Toronto are seemingly fed up with it. While he still has his supporters, the 27-year old forward is reportedly on the trade block, and whether or not he's moved before the 2024/25 season, the speculation simply won't go away.
Now, analyst from the NHL Network Stu Grimson has revealed his predictions for a potential return in a Mitch Marner trade, and it's safe to say that it would make Maple Leafs fans very happy.
"This group needs a little more sandpaper. They need more grit where their top-six is concerned. You look at that list of candidates in their top-six and I go back to the Florida series. The trouble that club had with Tkachuk and Bennett. Both players who factor in the top six for the Florida Panthers. I know the Leafs covet that kind of gritty presence as part of your top six, who can also generate top-end offensive numbers...

It'll be a haul. I got to believe there'll be a solid, established impact NHL player as part of the mix and perhaps a mix of picks and prospects... But it should be a rich return without question."
Given the step forward the Florida Panthers took after the arrival of Matthew Tkachuk, it's no surprise that recent speculation, continued here revolves around Toronto targeting a gritty forward of the same mold, and after the significant additions to their blue line, they would welcome a piece like that. Beyond that, Grimson believes they would also get a mix of prospects and picks along with an established NHLer, and while it's unclear exactly where they'd get this from, this makes sense for a multi-time All Star.
