In breaking news, it was just announced that Morgan Rielly will appeal his 5-game suspension to the commissioner Gary Bettman.

Rielly Will Formally Appeal His Suspension to Gary Bettman

It turns out the NHL's Department of Player Safety won't have the final say on what Morgan Rielly's punishment will be for his crosscheck on Ridly Greig. It was announced today that Rielly will be appealing the 5-game suspension.
Morgan Rielly will be filing an appeal to NHL commissioner Gary Bettman on his five-game suspension.
Since the suspension is under 6 games, Rielly's appeal will be heard by the commissioner, Gary Bettman, instead of an independent arbiter. While it is more than likely that Bettman will uphold the DoPS decision, this move does send a message that the Leafs and Rielly are not happy with the outcome of the hearing.
We are waiting to hear when the appeal will be heard.
