After the rise in questions about Toronto's future amid the firing of head coach Sheldon Keefe, Elliotte Friedman revealed the fate of Maple Leafs President Brendan Shanahan.
Following another failed chance in the playoffs against the Boston Bruins, the Toronto Maple Leafs are making drastic changes to their leadership. After five years of coaching the team, Sheldon Keefe made his final goodbyes to the team in a video on X upon learning of his firing.
However, with Keefe's firing, Toronto fans started to question the future of Brendan Shanahan with the team. Many of which believe that his removal should have taken priority.
"Fire Brendan Shanahan. Don't let him oversee the hiring process for a new coach, and don't let him oversee any part of the roster decisions coming up this summer."
However, these fans may be disappointed to learn that in a phone interview with Jeff Marek, Elliotte Friedman shared that Brendan Shanahan is unlikely to go anywhere in the near future.
"Shanahan is staying, at least for another year. I could always be wrong, but that's the impression I'm getting. He's got more year left on his contract and I expect that as it stands right now, he's going to be there to finish it out."
With Shanahan likely to finish his contract with the team, the Maple Leafs will be full speed ahead in their search for their next coach. As for Sheldon Keefe, we will have to wait to see where he ends up next.
