After rumors he would sign with Buffalo were denied, Filip Zadina has been linked to two Canadian teams: the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens.

Filip Zadina is one player in the NHL who has needed to break past a wall in their production. Despite being the Detroit Red Wings 6th-overall pick in 2018, he only has two 20-point seasons as a forward. After a 13-goal season with the San Jose Sharks, he was said to have been heading to the Buffalo Sabres for a PTO deal.
However, this rumor was said to be just that. His agent Darren Ferris confirmed with Lance Lysowski of the Buffalo News that Filip Zadina was not connected to the team, but is still very close to signing his next NHL contract. Instead of a New York team, the 24-year-old forward has been linked to the Colorado Avalanche and two Canadian teams: the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens.
Though Elliotte Friedman recently reported that the Toronto Maple Leafs are on the search for a left wing which Filip Zadina can play, he has been connected to Montreal more in the past. During his earlier years as a prospect, he attended a Habs supper event, implying that he already has some personal connections with people in the franchise.
There is no news on which team he will sign with, but it looks more likely to be in Canada. Hopefully, whichever route he decides, he will have a better chance to develop toward his full potential.
