The Toronto Maple Leafs have already made one big change this off-season with Craig Berube, and now they're targeting one of his former players.
Whether or not the Maple Leafs are able to trade Mitch Marner this summer, there's expected to be plenty of changes in their lineup, with the team seemingly on the cusp of a deep Stanley Cup Playoffs run. Now, there's been reports that the Maple Leafs could look to reunite new Head Coach Craig Berube with one of his former players, with David Perron set to hit unrestricted free agency as a potential acquisition.
David Perron is set to become a UFA and has some history with Craig Berube.
Perron was a key member of the 2019 Blues team that won the Stanley Cup, and will now hit free agency after two solid years in Detroit where he tallied 107 points while missing just six games. At 35-years of age, Perron certainly wouldn't be a long-term answer for the Maple Leafs, but with the youth they've got coming through the lineup, he'd be another solid veteran up front for Toronto.
Before free agency begins, we will likely see a big time trade for one of Toronto's stars as well as the 2024 NHL Draft, so plenty can change between now and then, but at this point, Perron certainly seems to be a worthwhile addition for Toronto if they can get it done.
