The Canadiens will likely be trading away a few players over the coming days as the team is still in the middle of their rebuild. One of the team's defenseman is garnering a lot of attention in particular.

Toronto Maple Leafs Interested In Canadiens Defenseman

According to recent reports, the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to add another defenseman. The team recently brought Ilya Lyubushkin back to the team only for him to get injured in his first game back in the blue and white. Such is the luck of the Leafs this season.
Even if Lyubushkin wasn't injured, the Leafs would likely be looking to add another defenseman. Now this issue is more urgent as the team continues to deal with a swath of injuries on the backend. The team is particularly thin on the right side, which might be why David Pagnotta believes the team is pursuing Canadiens defenseman David Savard.
"The Leafs are believed to have varying degrees of interest in such defencemen as David Savard of the Montreal Canadiens, Matt Dumba of the Arizona Coyotes, Colton Parayko of the St. Louis Blues, Mario Ferraro of the San Jose Sharks and Joel Edmundson of the Washington Capitals, among others."

Leafs Exploring Trade Options To Bolster Defense

That being said, Savard is far from the only player the Leafs are looking at. Brad Treliving has correctly identified the backend as a weakness for the team and is currently exploring multiple options ranging from young, cost controlled players, to older veterans on expiring deals. One way or another, the Leafs will very likely be adding another defenseman before the March 8th deadline. With Chris Tanev off the market, the team will have to act fast.
Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving, as many of us have reported throughout the past few months, absolutely was engaged on Tanev and remained so to the end. I believe the Leafs and Flames had one more chat about it Wednesday, but Treliving still wasn't ready to give up his first-round pick.
