Rumors have been swirling about Mitch Marner possibly packing his bags and leaving Toronto ever since the Leafs got knocked out of the playoffs.
Today's new speculation special is that Marner wants to stay in Toronto for one more season, and prefers to focus on the making the most of that before testing the free agency waters next Summer.
According to Pierre LeBrun over at The Athletic, Marner's not even interested in talking contract extensions right now. He's keeping his options open and focusing on the upcoming 204-25 season.
Marner had himself a solid season, racking up 85 points in 69 games. Yet he struggled in the playoffs, putting up just three points in seven games.
Since bursting onto the scene in 2016-17, the playmaker ranks sixth in the league with 445 assists and sits at 10th place with 639 points.
With his current contract paying him over $10.9 million, Marner's due for and extension but it's understandable why the 27 year-old wants to take things slowly.
Despite how things ended last season, he'll be looking for a raise and playing with a chip on his shoulder all season. After all, he's proven himself as one of the league's top wingers, and he's not about to settle for anything less.
