The Utah Hockey Club has inked former Edmonton Oiler Kailer Yamamoto to a professional tryout deal. According to a tweet from today by the team, and confirmed by NHL insider Chris Johnston, he's expected to report to training camp on September 18th.
Signing a PTO does not lock him automatically into a full contract, but it does give him an opportunity. Even though Kailer Yamamoto has agreed to this PTO, he's still free to sign with any of his choosing of the 32 NHL teams.
It was not the smoothest of seasons last year for him. Seattle Kraken signed Kailer Yamamoto to a one-year, $1.5 million contract but they both went another direction once the deal was up this summer. He had 16 points in 59 games with Seattle, a drop from his numbers posted a season prior with the Oilers. His average ice time dipped from 16:35 to 11:59. It was definitely a set-back type of season.
