Toronto Maple Leafs officially announce Max Pacioretty signing
The Toronto Maple Leafs officially announced Max Pacioretty's signing in a new statement.
Pacioretty, the former Montreal Canadiens' captain, will make a few Habs fans angry with his decision to sign a professional tryout with their biggest rivals: the Toronto Maple Leafs.
On X, the Maple Leafs organization made his signing official with a post. They confirmed that he joins the team on a professional tryout contract with the following publication:
Insider Chris Johnston shared additional details, saying that Pacioretty will be at training camp under a PTO but that the player should sign a standard player contract before the start of the season.
This was even confirmed by his agent, the renowned Allan Walsh, who shared on X that they expect Pacioretty to sign a contract before the season:
General manager Brad Treliving surely hopes that Pacioretty will bring his experience and natural scoring talent to the Leafs' roster. If he can get back to the level he was at before his two Achilles tendon injuries, when he could nearly produce at a point-per-game pace, the player will finally bring the offensive depth that the Leafs have been looking for in recent years.
The PTO is likely an agreement made in good faith to give the Leafs time to make the necessary adjustments to the salary cap. It'll be interesting to see what Treliving decides to do to free up the necessary space to sign him.
