Its been long rumored that the Vancouver Canucks have been wanting to trade one of their wingers and suitable replacement might have been found.
Garland On The Move Once More
The Vancouver Canucks and
Conor Garland have longed been rumored that the two sides want to part ways with one another. With Elliotte Friedman stating that the Canucks gave Garland permission to talk to other teams.
Garland's cap hit of $4.95 million per season until the 2025-26 season, with the large salary to move and acquire for any team at this stage. However Kevin Weekes reported that the Canucks may be willing to retain some of Garland's salary.
I'm told with Conor Garland recently changing his representation, and Vancouver's willingness to retain near 30% of his salary, there's some increased potential trade partners.
The Canucks may have a player that is in the same boat as Garland in
Anthony Mantha in Washington.
Mantha has been a healthy scratch for a fair bit of games as a member of the Washington Capitals. Mantha salary is even larger than Garland's with him making $5.7 million.
Both Players Desperately Needing New Homes
Both Mantha and Garland, have struggled heavily for both of their teams. Both players were traded with hopes of them becoming stars for their new teams but that has not been the case.
Mantha who was traded for, Jakub Vrana, Richard Panik, a 2021 first round pick and a 2022 second round pick. When the Capitals acquired him they were hoping he would be a top six power forward for the Capitals.
However after 121 games with them over four seasons, Mantha has only tallied 58 points during that span. With him being left out of the lineup due to his poor play.
Conor Garland has had a falling out with the Vancouver Canucks as the organization no longer has long term plans for the forward. Which has drawn a wedge between both sides.
Garland has had more success than Mantha in Vancouver but is need for a new home. In 161 games with the Canucks, Garland has collected an even 100 points during his time.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Conor Garland were traded for Loui Erikksson, Jay Beagle, Antoine Roussel, a 2021 first round pick, a 2022 second round pick and a 2023 seventh round pick.
