This week the Washington Capitals were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the New York Rangers. After their elimination, Alex Ovechkin now spoke to the media about the struggles he had this season and his uncertainty for the future.
Alex Ovechkin had the most struggles this season that he has ever had in the NHL. At the NHL trade deadline he had just 8 goals which for Alex Ovechkin is unacceptable. Heading into the trade deadline with the team out of the playoffs Alex Ovechkin says he feared he would be traded.
Yes, I was worried about being traded this season and I believed it would happen, but thank God, I am still a Capital. Honestly, this whole situation was tough for me. - Alex Ovechkin
The Capitals instead decided to hold on to their franchise cornerstone and it paid off. The team as a whole rallied and went on a run that got them into the Stanley Cup Playoffs as the last seed. Alex Ovechkin himself would turn things up and ended the season with an incredible 31 goals compared to where he was at when the trade deadline passed.
Unfortunately for the Washington Capitals, Alex Ovechkin could not continue his success into the playoffs. During their series sweep loss, Alex Ovechkin failed to record a point in any of the games.
Alex Ovechkin is held pointless in the NHL Playoffs for the first time in his career
Heading into next season Alex Ovechkin is just 41 goals away from tying Wayne Gretzky's all-time record. If he can get back to his old ways we could see Alex Ovechkin make history and the Washington Capitals get back to their winning ways.
