Elliotte Friedman shared a surprising detail about Max Pacioretty's association with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
A few days ago, Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving pulled off a move that surprised many people: he signed Max Pacioretty to a professional tryout contract.
Pacioretty is an exciting addition to the Maple Leafs lineup. He could finally bring what the Leafs have been looking for in recent years: some offensive depth on the bottom six.
Treliving himself discussed that issue in a recent interview, saying that he also looks forward to seeing some internal competition at training camp:
"Our expectation is he's going to come in, he gives us more depth," Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving said Thursday. "All that stuff's going to sort itself out at camp, right? I know we all get excited when we see guys out here, but to me, what we're trying to do is make our roster as deep as possible.
"I think there's going to be lots of people pushing for jobs. Where everybody fits and who they fit with, Craig (Berube) and the coaching staff will figure it out. I'm just trying to give them as many options as we possibly can. But we're excited to see Max, get him up to speed."

Pacioretty's acquisition took many fans and experts by surprise, including Elliotte Friedman. However, on 32 Thoughts, the insider shared a story that happened this summer in Toronto. He stated that he actually saw Pacioretty in Toronto during the summer, and while he didn't realize it at the time, Pacioretty was probably already working out with the Maple Leafs.

"I took my wife and son to see 'Pink' this summer at the Rogers Centre, and we walked into Pacioretty on the street. I said hi to him, and he kind of gave me the 'oh, I'm here visiting some friends,' and I really didn't think much of it because I was with my family. That one smacked me right in my face, and I totally missed it that, obviously, he was here skating and working out for the Leafs at that time."
Fans are eager to see Pacioretty in a Leafs uniform and hope that he can help the team reach the next level.
