The off-season has been a relatively quiet one for Alex Ovechkin, but not so much the Capitals, who have loaded up with the significant additions of
Pierre-Luc Dubois,
Jakob Chychrun,
Matt Roy and
Andrew Mangiapane, making it clear what their goal is in 2024/25. For Ovechkin, he has recently competed in a KHL All-Stars vs. Russian NHL All-Star Game in Russia, but unfortunately, he may have suffered an injury.
Fortunately for Washington, it doesn't appear the injury is serious, as the 38-year old is expected to resume training ahead of the 2024/25 NHL campaign within the next 10 days. Despite his age, Ovechkin still has much to accomplish in the NHL, as the team are chasing a second Stanley Cup during his tenure, and with just 42 goals separating him from NHL history, this season will be highly interesting.
Given his stature as the Capitals captain however, there's no way he wasn't going to play in this game if that was his desire, but in future, Washington may look to take this injury as a sign to protect their superstar during the off-season.
