Alex Ovechkin is on the hunt to become the NHL's greatest ever goal scorer, and now he's blamed Gary Bettman for not being there already.

Over the past 20 years, there's been no goal scorer in the NHL as good as Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin, who now sits just 41 goals back of the all-time record, currently held by NHL legend Wayne Gretzky. Ovechkin has played in 61 less games than Gretzky over his career, and while he's likely to pass him one day in goals scored, Ovechkin recently vented his frustration that missed games haven't allowed him to pass the record already.
Alex Ovechkin says he would have already claimed the goal-scoring crown if not for the near two season's of games he's missed due to lockouts and the pandemic 💭
Over those two missed years, Ovechkin missed out on 155 games, and with just 41 goals separating him from the record, all he would have needed in that time was a goal every four game to already take the lead. His career record over 1,800+ games is much better than that, so he can't be blamed for the frustration, and while it's highly likely that it will take someone a long, long time to overtake the Great 8, his record should be much, much higher than it will end up being.
