The Winnipeg Jets fell to the Calgary Flames last night but the health of one of their star wingers is in danger after a collision with the boards.
Ehlers Crashes Into The Boards
In a diving effort to prevent Flames forward Jonathan Hubderdeau from scoring on the empty net, Nikolaj Ehlers flew past the net and hit the boards hurting his shoulder.
Jonathan Huberdeau hits the post, but Andrew Mangiapane scores on the play. More concerning for the #NHLJets is Nikolaj Ehlers goes down in pain at the end of the play. 5-3 #Flames with 6.6 seconds to go.
Nikolaj Ehlers slid to try to block an empty better and crashed into the boards. Looks like he's hurting on the bench on the broadcast. That's a horrible way to end a game.
While we do not know the extent to the injury yet, Dr. Harjas Grewal believes that this could be a separated shoulder or broken collar bone.
Not a great angle but can suffer a separated shoulder (depends on grade of injury) and/or broken collarbone (8-12+ weeks) with this mechanism
Presume Jets will have a good idea tonight on the diagnosis for Ehlers as both injuries can be diagnosed after X-ray
Ehlers missed the entirety of the preseason and is one of the Jets best forwards when healthy. Hopefully, this is nothing too serious but there is a solid shot we don't see Ehlers back on the ice for a few weeks or even months.
