Kevin Cheveldayoff, the GM of the Winnipeg Jets, has commented on the state of the Jets and what they are reportedly doing with their players.
Cheveldayoff Shuts Down Major Rumor
Every single GM and head coach met together to discuss the state of the league and some policies heading forward. During this event, insiders Pierre LeBrun and Michael Russo spoke with a few GMs regarding some ongoing issues.
One of the GMs they spoke with was Kevin Cheveldayoff and they got some insight into what the Jets are doing from here on out.
First off, Cheveldayoff shut down a major rumor regarding Connor Hellebuyck:
[Cheveldayoff] said that he expects [Hellebuyck] in Winnipeg's opening night lineup next month and that he's not looking to trade either player right now.
«The narrative took on a life of its own,» Cheveldayoff said. «Obviously we made some changes to our organization and we think we're situated to be in a real good, competitive spot.»
The narrative in question is that the Jets were shopping Connor Hellebuyck and gearing towards a retool.
The State Of The Jets
In addition to commenting on the Hellebuyck rumors, Cheveldayoff commented on where the Jets are heading.
«Our singular focus is winning,» Cheveldayoff said. «That's what we're all about. So every challenge that we approach, every opportunity, or every time we get a chance to look at a different situation, it's about putting us in the best perspective, the best place to win. That hasn't changed and it won't change for our organization.»
This is encouraging to hear for Jets fans as they will obviously want to watch a competitive team. Remaining competitive in the face of potentially losing their stars is a bold move by Cheveldayoff but if he can make the proper moves, he will build a team players will want to play for.
