REPORT: Winnipeg Currently Has Two Of The Best Contracts In The NHL
A recent article from The Hockey News proves the Winnipeg Jets have two of the best contracts in the NHL.
The Top Six Long term Contracts
Jacob Stoller of The Hockey News recently wrote an article on the best long term contracts in the NHL.
In the summer of 2018 the Jets signed Hellebuyck to a 6 year $37 million deal. Stoller mentions how many were weary of this signing at the start, but Hellebuyck quickly proved to me more than worth it.
He is currently one of the most solid goaltenders in the NHL and is seemingly always in the Vezina conversation.
Mark Scheifele signed an 8 year deal carrying an AAV of $6.125 million per year which looked like a steal almost instantly.
Scheifele has proved himself to be one of the best centers in the NHL during this time and is a bonafide first line center. To get any first line center in this economy normally costs upwards of $8 million so having Scheifele at such a reduced rate was fantastic for Winnipeg.
Both of these players are entering the final years of their deals and the Jets are likely not retaining either if they hit free agency. It has hit a point where if the Jets do not move either, these fantastic contracts will have some major asterisks noting how the Jets wound up losing both players for absolutely nothing.
