According to a recent analysis published by The Athletic, the Winnipeg Jets screwed over star defenseman Josh Morrissey with his current, underpaying contract.
The Winnipeg Jets have worked hard to enter the potential playoff contenders category in the NHL. Though they could not make it beyond the first round in their last two appearances, they have continued to eke their way into the competition.

Though Winnipeg is full of high-level players, much of their recent success can be attributed to defenseman Josh Morrisey. In their recent stint in the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs, he was instrumental in keeping the Colorado Avalanche on their heels and keeping hope alive for the fans.
Yet, it appears that Morrissey's efforts are going underappreciated by his current contract. The player will make $6.25 million annually for the next four years, yet his value is estimated at roughly twice the amount. According to NHL analyst Dom Luszczyszyn, this makes his contract the fifth-best in the NHL, coming a few notches behind Gustav Forsling of the Florida Panthers.

Though he was not playing on the same caliber he is now when he entered his current contract, it is obvious that the Winnipeg Jets got away with robbery with Josh Morrissey. Hopefully, when his terms expire in four years, he can get himself a better deal.
