The Winnipeg Jets have a solid future ahead, with one of their brightest young stars being Cole Perfetti, and now we know what his contract situation is.
This off-season, the Winnipeg Jets have been incredibly quiet, but with the team chasing a Stanley Cup, they need to make some big time moves in the months ahead. One of those moves could be extending Cole Perfetti, who has become arguably the most important player for the future of this team, and now David Pagnotta has updated the situation involving a potential extension.
According to Pagnotta, there has been very little movement between the two parties, with the expectation now being that he will look for a short-term deal rather than inking a long-term contract in Winnipeg. This past season was Perfetti's most productive at the NHL level, tallying 19 goals and 38 points in 71 games played, with the 22-year old now poised for a big role in the lineup moving forward.
However, he's not yet been tendered a new offer despite currently being an RFA, and if things drag on any longer, it may become worse and worse for the Jets bright young star. Given that the team spent the No. 10 overall pick on Perfetti back in the 2020 NHL Draft, they clearly don't want to give up on him, so expect some movement on a deal soon with training camp approaching as the team look to build on a solid regular season from 2023/24.
