Winnipeg Jets prospect Markus Loponen has requested that his current team, Karpat, terminate his contract so that he can come to North America.

Markus Loponen is a Finnish prospect who was drafted by the Jets in the 5th round at the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. Less than one week after that, the Victoria Royals of the WHL selected him in the CHL Import Draft. Loponen has just informed his team in Finland that he wants to head to North America.
Markus Loponen is a big physical player who is gritty but remains disciplined by not taking too many unnecessary penalties. He uses his size to deliver big hits on his opponents. Not only can he score goals, but he is very responsible in his own end too. Loponen can finish plays when needed and score the important goals for his team.
One issue that many scouts have criticised about Markus Loponen is his skating ability. Many feel he will still need to improve in that category as he isn't as quick as they would hope, and needs to also work on his acceleration.
The Winnipeg Jets organization and their fans will be excited to know that Markus Loponen will be much closer to Manitoba now so they will be able to keep a close eye on his progression with the hopes he can one day make the team.
