Former Dallas Stars defenseman John Klingberg, after barely playing in the last two seasons, was suggested as a PTO for the Winnipeg Jets.

The NHL summer trading season has largely halted, with few UFAs remaining on the market. However, many teams are still looking to bolster their open positions ahead of training camp, leading to many fans and analysts hoping to grab the best of the supposed scraps and scratches. According to hockey journalist Connor Baldwin, one of the best of these is former Dallas Stars defenseman John Klingberg.
"I know that Klingberg hasn't had the best of seasons after leaving the Dallas Stars, but I feel he's still worthy of being a viable NHL defender [...] The past 2 seasons Klingberg didn't play too much, but if Klingberg gets a shot with the right team this season, he can prove that he can be the once great offensive defenceman that he was with the Stars not so long ago."
John Klingberg has had a stellar NHL career, earning 412 points in 633 games as a defenseman with Dallas, Anaheim, Minnesota, and Toronto. However, his presence in the NHL has been little to none for a while, getting placed on LTIR to deal with hip surgery. This seems to be an issue from the double hip replacement he underwent five years prior, raising questions about whether or not he can be trusted on the roster for the long haul.
While the risk is high, Klingberg's offensive-minded defense can prove valuable to the Winnipeg Jets heading into the upcoming season. Hopefully, his hip has properly recovered for another season in the NHL. If not, that is one less motion for the Winnipeg Jets to take advantage of in the coming months.
