One of the Winnipeg Jets top defensive prospects, Ville Heinola, has just signed a two-year contract extension with the club, worth $1.6 million.

Heinola was a first round pick of the Jets back in 2019. He played 41 games for the AHL's Manitoba Moose last season, scoring 10 goals and adding 17 assists. He had a major setback though, suffering an ankle injury in the final Jets exhibition game last October.

There is a slight technicality with Heinola's signing, and that is that he is going to lose his waivers exemption in the first year. If the Jets try and return him to the AHL, he will unfortunately have to be put through waivers where any team can claim him. Jets fans are sure hoping they won't have to see one of their top defensive prospects go to another team.
Winnipeg has signed RFA defenceman Ville Heinola to a two-year contract extension with an average annual value in the NHL of $800,000.

Heinola loses his waivers exemption this year. It's the NHL or a trip to waivers if the Jets try to return him to the Moose.
