For weeks now, it has appeared as though Nikolaj Ehlers was on his way out of Winnipeg, and now this intriguing trade has emerged to send him to Vegas.

After a lengthy run with the Winnipeg Jets, veteran forward Nikolaj Ehlers may be on the trade block with the team, with several teams reportedly interested in acquiring the consistent goal scorer. Now, an intriguing trade proposal has emerged that would send him to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for much needed blue line help for the Jets.
Vegas acquires: LW/RW Nikolaj Ehlers and LD Ville Heinola

Winnipeg acquires: LD/RD Shea Theodore and C Matyas Sapovaliv

The deal comes from a HFBoards forum, and while on the surface it may seem to be a bad deal, when you look at the makeup and needs of these two rosters, it starts to make plenty of sense. The move would allow the Jets to sure up their blue line with a proven top-four, while the Golden Knights could get a replacement for Jonathan Marchessault in their top-six, while exchanging intriguing young names in the process as well.
It's unclear at this point just how close the Jets are to taking trade proposals for Ehlers seriously, but with the way the roster is constructed, they need help defensively, and Theodore could be just the name that they are looking for if he's also available.
