Disappointment building in Pittsburgh after lack of news on Sidney Crosby

For weeks now, anticipation has been building in Pittsburgh that an extension for captain Sidney Crosby could be on the way, with recent reports from Mark Madden revealing that his birthday could be the day to announce it. However, that time is here and we are yet to see an extension, with birthday posts from Pittsburgh only building the disappointment among the fan base.

It's not entirely the fault of the Penguins social media team, as birthday posts, especially for an iconic captain are nothing out of the usual, but with the anticipation built from a Penguins reporter, fans are becoming anxious. Given how important the No. 8 and 7 are to Crosby, his birthday, his number and his current cap hit, the report certainly made sense from Madden.

Regardless of whether it's announced now or not, there appears to be optimism between the two sides that a deal will get done, and after two decades as captain of the team, it would take a drastic situation to ever see Crosby in another NHL jersey.
