The Anaheim Ducks have fallen off in the NHL following their first and only Stanley Cup win in 2007. As a result of their poor performance in this year's regular season, they had good enough odds in the draft lottery to get the 3rd overall pick.
This evening, they used their time on stage to dedicate the pick to a recently deceased veteran scout Glen Cochrane. Afterward, they made the far-reaching decision to pick up Oshawa Generals right wing Beckett Sennecke.
Interestingly, the pick seemed to surprise Sennecke himself. The young forward was not only visibly shocked but could be seen uttering some expletives under his breath while hugging hs parents in celebration.
Though Sennecke was expected to get drafted later, it is clear that Anaheim believes he has a bright future. With 27 goals and 68 total points in 63 games in the OHL this year, he certainly has promise.
