Though Stuart Skinner came back with a vengeance, particularly in the finals against the Florida Panthers, Calvin Pickard's place on the ice during the playoffs cannot be completely overlooked. He filled in for Skinner in three playoff games against the Vancouver Canucks, shutting down multiple tough shots on goal.
Though he only played in these three playoff games and 23 regular season games, he did enough to prove himself to Edmonton. The Oilers have now officially extended their contract with Pickard for 2 years at $1 million.
With another two years guaranteed, we can expect a bigger presence from Pickard in the upcoming seasons. Hopefully for the Oilers, this former 2nd-round draft pick can provide enough value for what they paid. If not, it could be another unpredictable year of goaltending in Edmonton.
