We don't often see a goaltender and a player drop the gloves. Last night, in a game between the Capitals and the Blue Jackets, goalie Elvis Merzlikins lost control of his emotions and engaged in an altercation with Capitals' enforcer Tom Wilson.
Merzlikins Loses Control and Jumps on Wilson in Overtime
Known for being a fierce competitor and bringing emotions to the game, Elvis Merzlikins was once again in the middle of a major altercation.
In overtime, at the end of a night filled with Tom Wilson's antics, the goaltender lost control of his emotions and after another typical Wilson-move, he jumped on the Caps' forward.

Usually, head coaches defend their players. But in this case, Pascal Vincent decided to openly criticize the goaltender, and went as far as attributing the defeat to his emotional reaction.

"Disappointing. That incident cost us. We have to control our emotions there. It's disappointing."
Merzlikins made the following declaration:
