Today, Edmonton played a game against Pittsburgh, taking them down 4-0. However, the brutality did not stop there, as one Oiler defenseman decided to add insult to injury by making a massive hit on Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.
Desharnais Makes Massive Hit On Sidney Crosby
During the final period of the game, the Oilers already had the inevitable 4-0 lead over the Penguins. Sidney Crosby took the opportunity to press Edmonton defenseman Vincent Desharnais against the wall. However, Desharnais took this one step further. He decided to open fire on Crosby, making contact with his head several times.
While Crosby did not put up much of a fight after Desharnais started swinging, few people have expressed a belief that he was weak, and his lack of response earned the team a 2-minute powerplay. Given this outcome after an already rough game, many fans are calling the attack unnecessary.
Unfortunately, these words and the powerplay were not enough for the Penguins to make a comeback. Now at 25th in the league overall, the path for them to make the playoffs is getting thinner by the day.
