Brandon Tanev was on the receiving end of an ugly hit in the Kraken's season opener tonight.

Tanev Injured After Violent Hit

Brandon Tanev left Tuesday night's game early after he was hit by Vegas' Brett Howden. While Tanev did have his head down, his back was turned to Howden who did not make an effort to avoid contact with the head.
As a result, the refs determined that the primary point of contact was indeed Tanev's head and Howden was given a match penalty for the play after review.

Tanev was very slow to get up. Major penalty has been called.

Making matters worse, Tanev fell awkwardly, crumpling down on his left leg, which appeared to bend in ways that human legs are not meant to bend. Tanev remained on the ice clearly in a lot of pain for quite some time.
Eventually, he was able to get up with the help of a trainer. Tanev did not return to the game.
It is unknown what else is in store for Howden but it is likely be fined and potentially suspended.
