Martin Frk Suspended for Dangerous Incident in Swiss National League

image

Former Detroit Red Wings player Martin Frk is under intense scrutiny following a dangerous incident in a Swiss National League game. Frk became physically involved in a puck battle with Lawrence Pilut, an opposing player, and found himself in a perilous position near the bench. In a move with apparent intent to harm, he elevated his skate toward Lawrence's neck.
The sequence of events is detailed in this report from TSN:
Former NHLer Martin Frk has been suspended five games for his high skate to Lawrence Pilut's neck area.
Thankfully, Pilut managed to avoid a severe injury. Initially, Frk received a one-game suspension pending an investigation. However, the disciplinary committee of the Swiss National League later imposed a five-game suspension on Frk and levied a fine of 7,600 Swiss francs ($8,744). Reports indicate that this decision was reached on the premise that Frk deliberately kicked Pilut.

Frk Under Heavy Criticism From the Hockey Community

This incident has ignited conversations within the hockey community, with some advocating for more severe repercussions, including a potential lifetime ban for Frk.
Also, this incident transpired less than six weeks after the tragic death of former Pittsburgh Penguins player Adam Johnson, who suffered a neck injury from a skate during a game between the Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers in the EIHL.
