Elias Salomonsson is arguably the Jets' best prospect on defense and while he was not going to make the NHL this season, the beginning of his year may be ruined as he left yesterday's preseason game with an apparent injury and did not return.
Salomonsson was hit by Angus Crookshank, a Senators prospect and former fifth-round draft pick. Crookshank was given a minor penalty for roughing following the hit. Crookshank has not earned a reputation as a particularly dirty of even physical player to this point in his career. In fact, he has had several seasons where he posted single digit penalty minutes. This hit did not appear to be malicious but it could be considered a little much for preseason hockey.
