During Colorado's recent 6-2 loss against the Oilers, Mikko Rantanen sustained a devastating hit. Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar has recently issued an update about Rantanen's injury, stating that he will be under evaluation "for awhile"

Rantanen was injured towards the beginning of the second period, when he became the target of a devastating hit from Oilers defenseman Matthias Ekholm. The hit forced Rantanen to leave the game early due, most likely due to a concussion protocol.
Ekholm was issued a penalty for the hit, but it appears that the hit was clean and that he will most likely not face any additional consequences.
This injury will definitely impact the already existing rivalry between the two teams, especially when considering that there is a chance that they will face off against each other in the conference final. The Avalanche will certainly notice the loss of Rantanen, he is a valuable player for the Avalanche, scoring 40 goals with 62 assists and 102 points throughout his 77 games played this season.
The Oilers are preparing for the playoffs and are currently working on perfecting their roster and getting the team prepared for the playoffs, they are still waiting to find out their opponent, but it will most likely be the Vegas Golden Knights.
