Today has been a big day as far as the release of information regarding the 2018 Canadian World Juniors scandal. Earlier in the day the London Police held a press conference on the matter. Then shortly after we got the first statement from Hockey Canada since the players turned themselves in.

Hockey Canada Issues A Statement Regarding London Police Press Conference

A few moments ago Hockey Canada put on a post on X that contained their statement on the 2018 Canadian World Junior Team scandal. The statement is in response to the press conference held by the London Police. In their statement Hockey Canada confirms they gave full support to the London Police and their investigation.
In a statement, Hockey Canada says it has "cooperated fully with the London Police Service throughout its investigation" and remains "committed to continuing to support the legal process."
Hockey Canada also detailed several steps they have taken since the investigation began to make sure this does not happen again and improve the culture within the organization.
Requiring all national team athletes, coaches and staff to undergo a mandatory enhanced screening process, and complete training on s***** violence and consent
Adopting the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport
Becoming a full signatory to Abuse-Free Sport and the Office of the Sport Integrity Commissioner (OSIC)
Establishing an Independent Third Party for any hockey-related maltreatment complaints against anyone affiliated with Hockey Canada-sanctioned programs who fall outside of OSIC's jurisdiction
Hosting the first Beyond the Boards Summit, which was led by external subject-matter experts to help establish a roadmap to change the culture of the game at all levels
Implementing recommendations from an independent governance review led by the Hon. Thomas Cromwell, C.C.
Publishing an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Path Forward, which includes a Commitment to Action statement that summarizes our ongoing work to drive long-term, sustainable change within the hockey ecosystem in Canada.
While these steps are admirable by Hockey Canada this scandal will continue to put a dark cloud over the organization. It will likely take years without another incident and significant cultural shift for Hockey Canada to be trusted and respected as it used to be.
