Management with the Columbus Blue Jackets must be shaking in their boots at the moment after one of their core players has left a game following a brutal knee-on-knee hit.

It Wasn't Me

The odd thing about this hit is it seemed like it took Zach Werenski as second or two to register that he was in pain. While going around the back of his own net, he collided with Garnet Hathaway, and seemed to think he was getting called for a penalty. IHe gives a nearby official the "this wasn't my fault" gesture, and then falls to the ice. Werenski needed help getting to the back.

C'mon Ref!

This hit looks 100 percent intentional to me. You can see Hathway extend his left to make contact with Werenski as Werenski tries to move out of the way. Hathaway was given a two-minute minor. It was initially called a major, but reduced on review by the officials. We'll have to wait and see whether the NHL's Department of Player Safety feels more punishment is needed.
