It seems like every time there's a coaching and/or GM position open in the NHL, Patrick Roy's name comes up as a candidate. In this instance it comes with some evidence to back it up.
Patrick Roy Could be the Next Coach of the Ottawa Senators
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman casually dropped a hot piece of information in his latest 32 Thoughts write up. Friedman said one of the leading investors groups that had attempted to buy the Senators recently had the Hall-of-Famer listed as taking over behind the bench for the Ottawa Senators. That confirms rumours that were going around at the time.
"I don't know what Steve Staios [Sens President of Hockey Operations] and Michael Andlauer [owner] think of Patrick Roy, but one of the investor groups was ready to appoint Patrick Roy as head coach. That's the decision they would have made had they taken control of the team."
Further Confirmation of a Potential Partnership Between Patrick Roy and the Ottawa Senators
Meanwhile, a Twitter account that leaked before anyone else that the Senators Shane Pinto was facing a huge suspension for breaking gambling protocols says the leading candidates to take over for D.J. Smith, who seems to be a pink slip waiting to happen, are Patrick Roy and Claude Julien.
Roy would certainly be a more charismatic candidate than Julien. It's likely just a matter of time before we find out who it will be.
