TSN insider Chris Johnston has reported that Phil Kessel is very close to getting a deal done for his next contract, and has nearly gotten a deal done in the past two weeks. His next contract could be imminent, as there is serious interest from teams in signing Kessel.
While Kessel may not be as quick as he used to be, he still has a lot to give whichever team ends up signing him. Last season, he managed to pot 14 goals and 22 assists for 36 points. While this isn't close to his career highs, it's still a worthy contribution that would benefit any bottom six across the league.
Not only that, but it's inarguable that Kessel knows how to win. His three Stanley Cups make that abundantly clear. If a team is looking to add a guy to their bottom six who knows how to get the job done in the playoffs, Phil Kessel is the guy.
