New Entrant Makes A Push To Bring Hockey Back To Atlanta

A new announcement on X has confirmed that former NHL forward Anson Carter is part of a group looking to bring hockey to Atlanta. He will be a part of the Alpharetta Sports & Entertainment Group.
We have a new entrant revealing its desire for NHL expansion. Broadcaster Anson Carter, who scored 202 goals in 674 NHL games, unveils Alpharetta Sports & Entertainment Group wishing to bring a team back to Atlanta. Details here:
Carter will be a part of a strong ownership group who has already committed to building an arena in the Atlanta area. Carter is not only a former NHLer but has been a resident of Atlanta since 2009 and knows the market well. Here is a statement from this new group.
The ASE Group has received considerable support from County and local leadership.
"The City of Alpharetta is excited for the possibility to be home to NHL hockey, one of the fastest growing and most exciting sports experiences in the world." said Alpharetta Mayor Jim Gilvin. "Our city is at the geographic center of the fan base in Metro Atlanta. Easy access provided by Georgia Highway 400 and planned expansion of MARIA public transit in Alpharetta, guarantees hockey fans an easy commute and a world class experience. Over the last year we have worked closely with former NHL star player Anson Carter and have been impressed with his vision and passion for growing hockey."
"I am thrilled to support former NHL star Anson Carter's bid to bring a National Hockey League team to Fulton County," said Fulton County Commission Chairman, Robb Pitts. "The location of an NHL franchise, as currently proposed in Alpharetta, would bring an exhilarating sport to our community's thriving professional sports lineup. I have no doubt the citizens of Fulton County and the Metro Atlanta region will be strongly supportive of professional hockey's return to our region. We are a sports town who has hosted the Super Bowl, NCAA National Championships, and the forthcoming
2026 World Cup."
"I believe an NHL team will contribute to the already-strong cultural vibrancy of our community, create opportunities for local businesses and further enhance Metro Atlanta's reputation as one of the preeminent sports regions in the country," Pitts said. "We look forward to embracing the team and fostering a strong partnership that will enrich the fabric of our area for years to come."
Lastly, the ASE Group underscores its commitment to cultivating a sustainable hockey ecosystem in Georgia, emphasizing grassroots engagement with youth hockey organizations, collegiate programs, and initiatives supporting inclusivity and accessibility. The ASE Group is committed to creating a love for the sport in all communities, ages and skill levels through ongoing efforts to nurture the sport's roots statewide, including the development of NHL Street and Jr. Gladiators programs, the ASE Group aims to ensure the long-term success of NHL hockey in Georgia.

Bringing hockey back to Atlanta will be no small task. The city has had two failed franchises already which will likely make the NHL hesitant to bring yet another team there. However, it sounds as though the first steps have been taken to bring hockey to Atlanta.
