Carter Hart, a former Philadelphia Flyers goaltender, is in a tough spot right now.

He's among five ex-NHL players involved in the 2018 World Junior Hockey Canada scandal
who've been excused from non-essential pre-trial hearings to keep their hockey dreams alive.
Last week, details emerged about Alex Formenton's case, as the 24 year-old was exempted from proceedings as a result of him retiring from hockey to become a construction worker.
i have been learning to operate
excavators, skid-steer loaders and rollers," writes Mr. Formenton, formerly a member of the Ottawa Senators. His affidavit says he needs time to learn. Having focused on hockey my entire life, it is challenging to transition to a new line of work.
Hart is trying to relocate from Alberta to Tennessee to train for a potential comeback, but his US entry has been denied. That excuse doesn't sit well with fans who don't think he should be allowed to play in the NHL.
If I am required to attend the pretrial motions, whether in person or remotely, it would be impossible for me to maintain my daily training regimen," he writes. His affidavit says he has hired an immigration lawyer. I have been previously denied entry to the United States due to my criminal charge.
Hart's looking to return to the NHL, and he's hired an immigration lawyer to help with his move. As Hart said, he still plans on returning to hockey and continuing his playing career once all of this drama blows over.
Former Calgary Flame Dillon Dube and New Jersey Devil Micheal McLeod who moved to the KHL said the time zone difference would impact their ability to participate. Dube promptly scored in his debut.
Meanwhile, New Jersey Devil Cal Foote also cited hockey training reasons as to why he must skip trial.
I am required to follow a daily and stringent training regimen," says Mr.
Foote, a former New Jersey Devil. "If I am unable to train at this level consistently, my ability to continue playing professional hockey will be jeopardized.

Justice Bruce Thomas has supported the players' requests, acknowledging their need to maintain their normal routines and training during the pre-trial period.
He's also affirmed that their lawyers will handle any pre-trial hearings. Judge Thomas has made it clear that while they can skip some hearings, they must attend the trial and related proceedings when it begins in 2025.
